Events and Festivals, Tunisia

Tunisian directors Latifa Doghri and Salem Trabelsi screened their first documentary Boxing with Her at the 13thBrussels Mediterranean Film Festival last December. The film follows Tunisian women boxers in their daily struggle to defend their right to box.

"A boxing ring implies men, especially in an Arab-Muslim society. So transgressing the rules and fighting is also a metaphor of society. They fight in the ring and also within society. They chose boxing to acquire a place in society, to be seen, to exist."

"These women boxers were scared of being stigmatised because of appearing as boxers in front of the camera, that it would prevent them from finding a husband."

"They're the first generation of female boxers in Tunisia and they're champions. We now intend to move forward and produce Boxing with Her 2."
