Karim El-Shenawy, Egyptian director
Egyptian filmmaker Karim El-Shenawy speeks about his latest film Salafi, a documentary about two Egyptian Salafists with diametrically different views on the Salafist movement and the current state of Egyptian politics. Among other things, Muftah talks to the director about the rise of Salafism in Egypt and the increasing divisions within Egypt’s Salafist community, including the emergence of the Costa Salafists, a group of progressive Salafis and non-Salafis working for social justice in Egypt.
