Moroccan film festivals unite in new federation

The Rabat, Tetouan, Agadir, Salé and Dakhla film festivals have announced the creation of a Moroccan film festival federation, reports Le 360.

These founding members aim to fill the existing gap in collaboration between the country's film festivals and to promote their common interests, providing a united voice to the country's film industry and to promote Moroccan cinema internationally.

The organisers are planning an inaugural general meeting and working on a website for the federation.

The federation will represent festivals when speaking to the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM) and the ministry of communications, according to Abdelhaq Mantrach, the director of the Rabat Auteur Film Festival.

Driss Moubarik, the director of the Agadir Film and Migrations Festival, focused on the importance of increased collaboration between festivals and cinematic events.

He also noted that the creation of this federation, which has been in the planning for over two years, will allow its members to negotiate with international production companies and will give greater weight and visibility to Moroccan cinema at international festivals.

It is not yet known whether the Marrakesh Film Festival (FIFM) will join the federation.
