Three South Mediterranean projects selected by the Jan Vrijman Fund

This January, the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA)’s Jan Vrijman Fund chose three South Mediterranean film projects for funding from 401 projects from over 40 countries.

These were The Cleaner by Sarah Lamrini (Morocco), Zaineb Hates the Snow by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia), and Whose Country by Mohamed Siam (Egypt).

In total, an amount of € 212.000 was granted to 20 projects. The committee selected six projects for script and project development, eight projects for production and post-production, as well as six festivals and/or workshops.

The selection committee for the January 2012 round consisted of Ally Derks, director of IDFA and JVF, Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen, head of Industry IDFA, Barbara Truyen, commissioning editor at VPRO, Carmen Cobos, producer for Cobosfilms, Denis Vaslin, producer for Volya Films, Isabel Arrate Fernandez, manager of the Jan Vrijman Fund, Martijn te Pas, programme coordinator of the IDFA, Nick Ware, documentary consultant, and Steven Markovitz, producer for Big World Cinema.
