The 26th European Film Festival will take place in Amman from October 26 to November 7, kicking off in Zarqa and touring four governorates: Zarqa, Irbid, Tafileh and Aqaba.

Thirteen European films will be screened at the Institut Francais, the Instituto Cervantes, the Goethe Institute and the Societa Dante Alighieri during the festival. They will notably include French blockbuster Serial (Bad) Weddings directed by Philippe de Chauveron, American actor-turned-director Dustin Hoffman’s Quartet from the United Kingdom, and Czech-born actor-turned-director Jirí Mádl’s To See the Sea, a film that recently screened at the Cineast film fest in Luxembourg.

There will also be film screenings in four different universities around Jordan: Yarmuk University, the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Al Hussein Bin Talal University in Maan and the Hashemite University in Zarqa.

Students studying mass media, journalism or filmmaking at these university with be able to take part in workshops, led by experts from the Royal Film Commission, to help them with their scriptwriting skills.

They will also be able to take part in a competition for best script, whose winner will travel to the Czech Republic for an opportunity to work alongside Europe's best-known filmmakers and learn more about the industry.

The winner will be announced at the film festival's closing ceremony in December.

The 26th European Film Festival is held by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in collaboration with the Royal Film Commission in Jordan.
