Auteur cinema returns to Rabat

The 20th Rabat Auteur Film Festival is back this year in the Moroccan capital from October 24 to November 2.

Its Panorama of Moroccan films is to include Mohamed Amine Benamraoui's Adios Carmen and Mohamed Ahed Bensouda's Behind Closed Doors.

The festival is giving tribute to Moroccan director Farida Belyazid, whose best-known films include Bab Assama Meftouha and Kid Nssa.

A Retrospectives section is honouring Charlie Chaplin, Spanish director Louis Buñel and French director François Truffaut, with screenings of their films.

The festival will also honour Palestinian director Elia Suleiman, whose film Divine Intervention won the Jury Award at Cannes in 2002. The director will hold a masterclass at the Foundation for Professional Training in Cinema and Audiovisual Media (FOCAL).

Moroccan filmmaker Hakim Belabbas is heading a jury made up of international cinema personalities.
