Short film competition for young talented Libyan filmmakers

The Italian Culture Institute, in partnership with the European Union, has launched the first edition of the Libya Movie Awards, a competition for short films by talented young Libyan filmmakers.

The competition aims to stimulate the creation of a Libyan film industry and to nurture a community of filmmakers, as well as to discover new talents and to provide a venue for ideas on social issues in Libya after the revolution.

Winners are to be awarded with professional tools to boost their career. An international jury made up of Libyan directors and film critics along with European filmmakers and directors will select the best works among the submissions.
During the three-day festival, to last from March 28 to 30, European guests will offer morning workshops and lectures about filmmaking, while prize-winning short films will be shown in the afternoon.

Participants must be Libyan nationals and preferably active since the revolution. They are invited to submit a new film especially created for the occasion.
