Three studies on support to film production and distribution in the South Mediterranean region are now available to download in English and French.
These studies were commissioned by the Euromed Audiovisual programme's Financing Working Group, a group of film professionals who last met this January in Lebanon and who are working on recommendations for a new regional financing mechanism to improve film production and co-production in the South Mediterranean.
The studies seek to counter a lack of information on available support to film projects in the South Mediterranean region, notably due to a lack of transparency and exchange among professionals.
To fill in this gap, Lebanese producer Diane Aractingi (Fantascope Productions) has authored a study on available support to film production and co-production in the region, while Moroccan distributor Mohamed Layadi (Marrakech Spectacles, and a member of the new Euromed Audiovisual-supported MEDIS film distributors' network) has written one on available support to film distribution in the same countries.
A third study on available support to film development in the region, was conducted by Jordanian producer Mohannad al Bakri (SAE).
As part of the latter, Layadi highlight proposals previously made by fellow MEDIS distributors, including involving television channels in promoting films, such as in Morocco where an annual budget is allocated to this purpose, and facilitating distributor access to new cinematic works across all South Mediterranean countries.
All three studies are to provide background material for the Financing Working Group's recommendations for further financing mechanisms to support film production in the South Mediterranean region.
