Euromed Cinemas is the project dedicated to supporting distributors and exhibitors of the regional EU-funded Euromed Audiovisual II.
On 10 July 2006, Euromed Cinemas held its 2nd Expert Committee (which gathered together European and Mediterranean experts from Sweden, Poland, Spain, France, Morocco and Lebanon), so as to examine assistance applications made by European and Mediterranean distributors. The number of applicants doubled (30 instead of 14) since the assistance was launched on last April.
18 releases will benefit from the support concerning 15 films (8 from the MEDA countries and 7 from Europe). 12 films (7 of which are European including the Palme d'Or winner The wind that shakes the barley, by Ken Loach and 5 Mediterranean films including the Golden Globe winner Paradise now) will therefore be released in the 11 territories of the partnership including * Attente by the Palestinian Rashid Masharawi in Spain, Dunia by the Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyne Saab in Jordan, L’enfant endormi by the Moroccan Yasmine Kassari in the Netherlands, Iklimler by the Turk Nuri Bilge Ceylan in Italy and Close to Home by Dalia Hager and Vidi Bilu (Israel) in Great Britain and Ireland.
