Generation Big Screen is one of the 7 training projects supported by the regional Euromed Audiovisual II Programme funded by the European Union aiming at enhancing the Euro-Mediterranean audiovisual cooperation.
75 applications were received to attend this workshop from August 27th to September 7th in Venice, during the Mostra. The workshop specializes in training exhibitors and distributors, with the mission to foster by all means a mid-term increase of the audience for Mediterranean and European cinema in Southern Mediterranean countries.
The 17 selected participants represent 8 out of 10 MEDA countries (Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Turkey). The trainees are between 20 and 50 year-old, the average age being 31. 60% are women. The job profiles are very diversified, ranging from high executives from huge theatrical consortium from Egypt, Jordan or Lebanon, down to project-holders wishing to create art cinemas in Beirut, Tangiers or Jerusalem, and including also film distributors, mainly independent, focusing on quality cinema.
A 2nd workshop, held in French, will welcome some 30 more people in Tunis next November, mostly from the Western Mediterranean region (in particular Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia).
