Filmmakers seek "intermediary language" for Algerian cinema

Directors, film critics and screenwriters discussed the necessity to find an "intermediary language" in Algerian cinema production during a recent debate on "Arabic language in cinema and drama writing" held by the Supreme Council for the Arabic Language, reports Algérie Presse Service.

This "third language" would be a cross between everyday dialect and academic language. Closer to modern standard Arabic than to Algerian dialect, it could potentially also boost the distribution of Algerian films in the rest of the Arabic-speaking region.
