Danielle Arbid prepares Faire connaissance avec la France

After being selected twice for the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes (in 2004 with In the Battlefields and in 2007 with Un homme perdu) and once for the competition in Locarno (in 2011 with Beyrouth Hotel), Lebanese director Danielle Arbid will begin filming her fourth feature film, Faire connaissance avec la France (lit. "Getting to know France"), in the autumn.

According to information obtained by Cineuropa, the cast will feature Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (My Sweet PepperlandThe Patience Stone), rapper Orelsan (for the first time in a film), Melvil Poupaud (Laurence Anyways), Vincent Lacoste (2010 César for Best Male Newcomer in Les Beaux GossesAsterix And Obelix: God Save Britannia) and Dominique Blanc (Best Actress in Venice in 2008 in L’autre).

Written by Danielle Arbid with the collaboration of Pierre Schoeller (2012 César for Best Screenplay for The Minister), the screenplay of Faire connaissance avec la Francfollows Leyla, a young immigrant of Arab origin in Paris in the 1990s. Three decisive encounters will show her a side of this country she still fantasises ... and a side of herself. Three men, as generous as they are complementary, will become the mirror of her transformation.

Produced by David Thion for Les Films Pelléas, Faire connaissance avec la France will be filmed in autumn 2013 in Paris. The full list of the film’s partners will be unveiled at a later date.
