Euromed Audivisual makes its way to Rome’s MedFilm Festival

The 19th Medfilm Festival opens today in Rome and will unfold until June 30 at the Casa del Cinema, MAXXI and Cinema dei Piccoli. Euromed Audiovisual is to take part in the festival which combines several film screenings with parallel events such as conferences and workshops.

Croatia may be the guest of honour country this year, but South Mediterranean productions have also made it to Rome.

Among them are Rock the Casbah, Israeli director Yariv Horowitz's feature debut previously seen at the Jerusalem and Berlinale film festivals, Ziad Doueiri’s The Attack, which won the Cineuropa Prize at the latest Istanbul Film Festival, MEDIS member Hala Lofty’s Coming Forth by Day which follows an Egyptian woman taking care of her sick father, and Homeida Behi’s Nesma, which focuses on the crisis of the Tunisian bourgeoisie.

A special section dedicated to the winners of Euromed Audiovisual’s MADE IN MED short film contest will screen Syrian, Egyptian, Tunisian and Jordanian short films.

Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah, whose latest film After the Battle competed at Cannes last year, is to receive a career achievement award.

A forum called “Creative Europe – What should be done to eliminate cultural obstacles and to enlarge cooperation with the South Mediterranean?” is inviting a group of professionals and politicians to reflect on this particular issue.

Among them are Italian MEP Silvia Costa, Tunisian producer Habib Attia and the Euromed Audiovisual programme's regional and monitoring unit team leader, Valerio Caruso.
