A tribute to Jordanian distributor and MEDIS founding member Husam Amouri

Passionate about his work and always ready to face the challenges of the distribution industry in the South Mediterranean, Husam Amouri passed away while returning from the animated film festival in Annecy where he attended a workshop on the distribution of animated feature films.

His death is a significant loss for the small Mediterranean distribution sector. Husam Amouri was the manager of the Middle East Cinema, founder of Amouri Film Co, and a founding member of the first network of South Mediterranean film distributors MEDIS. For over 28 years, his ideas have helped to expand cinema in Jordan as well as in Syria and Lebanon.

Last March, Euromed Audiovisuel invited Amouri to join the jury for its short film competition MADE in MED, an occasion that once more confirmed his seriousness, professionalism and generosity.

He was so enthusiastic about the experience that he only needed a weekend to watch all competing 67 shorts and send in his ranking.

"I watched each film three times," he explained. 'There were great ideas and fantastic stories, especially among the films that treated the Arab Spring. […] We therefore had trouble selecting the winners. However, thanks to the excellent collaboration and intense discussions among the jury members with regard to the fundamentals of art cinema vis-a-vis modern cinema, we were finally able to select the three best films."

The Euromed Audiovisual programme wishes to express its support to Husam Amouri's family and relatives.
