MEDA region producers and scriptwriters – develop your projects in Marrakech

MEDA Film Development is seeking applications for its 2007 programme dedicated to 10 producer/scriptwriter teams from the MEDA countries with a feature-length fiction film project at the development stage.

A total of 20 participants per year, over a period of three years, will attend workshops in Marrakech (Morocco) in March, July and in December 2007 in parallel to the Marrakech International Film Festival. All three sessions, conducted by tutors and international experts, will be in French and English, with simultaneous translation in Arabic.

The objective of the programme is to help producers and scriptwriters of the MEDA countries develop their film projects in the best possible conditions during three eight-day sessions over the course of one year. The goal is to promote synergies between producers and authors, essential to a successful development of film projects.

Producers and authors will work together on the narrative structures and techniques. The workshops will address issues such as ‘when and how to think about casting during the writing process’, when to start working on the music’ and ‘how to reconcile the project’s artistic aspiration and its financial feasibility’. Today it is unthinkable to reach a general audience without the modern communication techniques used to promote a film. Therefore, the workshops will focus on topics such as marketing and communications aspects as well as distribution of films.

Interested producer/scriptwriter teams are invited to submit a proposal by 31 December 2006.

Traveling and lodging expenses will be fully covered by Mediterranean Films Development.
