Algerian cinema: an endagered heritage

“To pay tribute to the State’s achievements in the battle against the attacks, prejudices, and damage suffered by cultural goods and to recognise all those who lend their expertise to preserving the country’s heritage and cultural values.” Our Minister for Culture Madame Khalida Toumi’s leitmotif presents no ambiguity.

But heart-felt declarations are not enough. The matter is of course a thorny one and dealing with it requires a strategy and sizeable financial means, but what is more, given the norms for conservation, costly both in terms of human and financial resources, the promotion of our audiovisual heritage is highly unlikely on a national scale.
