Opportunities
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) is the Doha Film Institute’s annual international film festival. Since 2009, it has been committed to supporting and showcasing emerging and auteur talent from the Middle East and North Africa.
Its next edition will take place in November 2012.
In the festival’s Arab Film Competition, this year’s awards will include:
Feature Narrative Competition
- Best Feature Narrative Film: $100,000 (USD)
- Best Director: $50,000 (USD)
- Best Performance Award: $10,000 (USD)
Feature Documentary Competition
- Best Feature Documentary Film: $100,000 (USD)
- Best Director: $50,000 (USD)
Short Film Competition
- Best Short Film: $10,000 (USD) + Development Prize of up to $10,000 (USD)
What are the main rules?
- Films that are submitted to DTFF 2012 should not have been released or publicly exhibited before November 1, 2011, with the exception of a festival premiere in the film’s country of production. Exceptions are at the sole discretion of the festival.
The Arab Film Competition is open to entries that meet the following criteria:
- The entry must have an Arab director attached to the film (includes Arab diaspora). Arab nationality or origin shall mean people from one or more of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The Contemporary World Cinemasection is open to feature-length entries from all nations.
- To be eligible for consideration, non-English language works must either have English subtitles or be accompanied by dialogue lists in English
- Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes. Short films must have a running time of 40 minutes or less. Exceptions are at the sole discretion of the festival.
Key dates for the 2012 edition:
- June 11: Submissions open
- August 10: Submissions close
- All applicants will receive a status of their entry by October 18
