Tal Granit and Sharon Maymon, Israeli directors

“When talking about difficult stuff, you need to use humour”

Events and Festivals, Israel

At the Venice Days, Israeli directing duo Tal Granit and Sharon Maymon screened The Farewell Party, a film that uses irony to tell the story of a group of elderly people who build a euthanasia machine in order to help out a sick friend.

“We feel that, when talking about difficult stuff, you need to use humour, because then you open people to hear you. If they laugh while they cry, they think, also."

“We [wanted] to raise the question: What should you do? Should euthanasia be legal? Should we help people to end their life, or just let them suffer or lose their mind, until God decides?"
