Lebanese producer Sabine Sidawi

"Censorship is a major problem in Lebanon"

Sabine Sidawi, head of Orjouan Productions and a partner of the Euromed Audiovisual Regional Monitoring Support Unit (RMSU) in Lebanon, talks about freedom of expression in Lebanon and portraying Arab identity in her films.

Orjouane Productions was founded in 2007 by Sabine and has produced all of Lebanese director Danielle Arbid's features, including her latest, Beirut Hotel. She was also behind two prominent Abu Dhabi Film Festival alumni films: Maher Abi Samra¹s We Were Communists and Olivier Assayas's epic bio-pic Carlos.

Beirut Hotel premiered at the Locarno Film Festival last summer, but remains banned in Lebanon where it was originally set to hit cinemas this January.
